Diana Palmer
Blind Promises (1984)
Author: Diana Palmer
Genre (and Subgenre): Gentle/Christian
Plot Summary:
After losing her mother to a tragic car accident, Nurse Dana Steele must learn to live with her guilt and move on. Quitting her job at a local hospital, Dana takes on the care of a man unlike any she has ever known, Gannon van der Vere. Temporarily blinded in a boating accident and abondoned by his fiancee, he is stubborn, suspicious, and ill-tempered. Slowly, through sheer determination and undoubting faith, Dana begins to melt the icy reserve as they work together to help Gannon deal with his blindness and accept that Dana may come to be more than just a nurse to her patient.
Geographical Setting: Ashland, North Carolina
Time Period: 1980's (contemporary?)
Series: No Author's series; however, the publisher's series is Love Inspired
Appeal Elements:
Inspiration Fiction; Character-driven; Slow-paced; Nursing; Blindness; North Carolina; Redemption Fiction
Read-alikes:
This work is a minor break from most of the author's other works, though Christian concepts and the idea of the "good woman" is a common theme. I would recommend looking to others in the publisher's "Love Inspired" series.
Red Flags: Not evangelical; "Gentle" read; Divorce; Death of minor character
