This Time Love

This Time Love (2004)

Author: Tara Randel
Genre (and subgenre): Romance

Plot Summary:
Lindsay Summer, a 30 year-old single school teacher, is told that she will lose custody of her 12 year-old niece, Dawn, unless she finds a husband. Luckily, her high school crush, the recently widowed lawyer-turned-carpenter Gabe Banner, just moved back to town with Emily, his daughter (who also happens to be Dawn’s best friend). Although Linday’s mother has set up dates for her with all of the single men in the area, Dawn and Emily interrupt each date and trick Lindsay and Gabe into spending time together. After a few dates, Gabe asks Lindsay to marry him, but Lindsay is not sure if he loves her or if he is just trying to help her keep Dawn. Eventually, Gabe convinces Lindsay of his love by buying her the house she always wanted and by saying that he will still marry her even though she is unable to have children. After Gabe and Lindsay get married, and Dawn and her birth mother reunite, Lindsay goes on fertility drugs, gets pregnant, and everyone lives happily ever after.

Geographical Setting: Paineville, Georgia

Appeal Characteristics:
This is a non-literary Gentle Read Romance. Although the story is character driven, develops slowly, and focuses on the internal problems of the characters, all of the characters are cardboard and do not change over the course of the story. This book follows the classic Romance storyline and is best suited for readers who prefer Gentle Read, non-action oriented tales.
